With 18.3 million Internet users, Thailand in 2010 produced an aggregate amount of Bt52 billion in e-commerce transactions. Rocket Internet is hopeful that its Lazada.co.th will become No.1 e-commerce website in the country. In March, it launched the first SEA website in Indonesia.

Johannes Friedric von Rua, CEO of Lazada Co Ltd - the operator of the Thai website, said that in the past five years, Thailand?s e-commerce industry has shown the 25-30 per cent average annual growth rate. In the first half of this year, the transactions expanded 22 per cent from the same period last year.

"The second half should show a 30 per cent growth rate, following greater confidence in online security and greater access to the Internet - particularly through smartphones," he said.

Following the 4 months of trial, Lazada has amassed over 20,000 items in 12 categories, with about 1,500 brand partners like DKSH, Unilever, Samsung and BlackBerry.

In the past few years, Rocket Internet, has become a strong partner for numerous successful companies in supporting them with our unparalleled online expertise, network of contacts and equity. Some of its best-known projects include Groupon, Zalando, Wimdu and eDarling.
