The U.S. airline industry gradually moving away from all the bloodshed that caused the bankruptcy of four major companies in recent years, while at the same time, marked the emergence of many discount carriers at the forefront of the company. In fact, the face of commercial aviation has changed dramatically over the last decade and now it seems that the worst is behind us. This does not mean that layoffs and more layoffs are possible, but for the person seeking a career in customer service in the aviation industry, the future has improved considerably.
Customer service opportunities with the airlines includes the following positions: booking agents, ramp agents, online service technicians, customer service agents, baggage handlers, and various management positions, including manager of the station manager customer service, and airport operations manager. Titles like working there, but for the sake of brevity the term ?airline customer service?, I mean the ground staff responsible for assisting customers as they get to and from their destinations.
So exactly who is hiring? Well, on any given day most people could be. The turn over rate for customer service staff can be high, depending on the airline and working conditions. To make it easier for you, the following is a breakdown of the various airlines that hire customer service agents. In most cases you will be working directly for the airline, but in some cases a situation may be with a provider or the airport authority itself.
The legacy airlines ? American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, United and U.S. Air all qualify as legacy carriers. They simply define the carriers who helped the airline industry get its start in the U.S. six on the list, only American and Continental have avoided bankruptcy. Therefore, a race car with a legacy can be a risky proposition.
Foreign carriers, many foreign carriers flying in and outside the U.S. and worth a look. Depending on the selected company, you may be asked to speak the language of the country of the airline in addition to speaking English. Chief of the airlines are Air Canada, Mexicana, Air France, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa and flag carriers and discount carriers from dozens of countries around the world.
Discount airlines, some of the strongest companies in operation today are the discount airlines. Two of the best are Southwest and JetBlue, which are expanding and are hiring regularly. Other discount carriers are: Spirit, USA3000, and many smaller regional carriers more.
Regional Operators ? Working as a ?feeder? airlines for large companies, regional operators include Colgan, Republic, Shuttle America, American Eagle, Comair, and the Great Lakes. Some of these companies are awash in cash with very promising future.
Carriers of the Charter ? A few airlines fly mainly charter flights, although some also have regular flights. Some charter operators best-known are: Miami Air, Xtra Airways, Sun Country and
Motor carriers ? Not every company moves people. Some companies to transport goods, merchandise, and equipment. Jobs customer service and sales agents and management teams are an option for potential employees. The load majors are: DHL, FEDEX, UPS, Emery worldwide, and Amerijet.

Overall, the opportunities for you in the airline industry have improved. The Workers? Compensation per hour is generally low benefits, including flight privileges, are usually pretty good.
