PANGEA 2011 ? The First International Business Conference ...

As the name PANGEA suggests ?one big landmass or supercontinent?, the First International Business Conference-PANGEA 2011 on 24th September at K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research(SIMSR) was a congregation of much sought after academicians, professional stalwarts, ambassadors and strategists from all over the world. The aim was to give exposure to the management students to the evolving industry practice, complement their classroom learning and garnering essential industry insights which will help the budding managers at SIMSR,MumbaiThe Conference began with the college`s tradition of lighting the lamp and reciting the prayer to invoke the Gods for their blessings.
The first speaker Mr. R Rajagopalan, General Manager-Foreign Exchange Department gave useful insights on ?Foreign Exchange Management ? Indian Experience, FEMA and ECB?. The speech was followed by Q&A with the students.
Mr. Makarand Teje, Vice President-Capgemini Pvt. Ltd. spoke on ?Challenges & Trends in Global Consulting?. Mr. Teje used anecdotes to explain the consulting fundamentals in layman terms and then related it to the industry jargons which helped the students to learn in a very innovative way.
Mr. Tom Vermeulen, Trade & Investment Commissioner of Flanders Investment & Trade Agency, Consulate General of Belgium talked on the various business opportunities for Indian companies in Europe particularly Belgium and briefed on EU-India relationships. Mr. Tom has a very strong background of assisting firms in international business related affairs and establishments.
Mr. Satish Deshpande, Divisional Manager, International Business Division, Raychem RPG Pvt. Ltd. shared his thoughts on ?Global competitiveness through organizational excellence particularly in manufacturing? with the students and broadened the students? horizons. He covered TQM, Six Sigma, Operational Effectiveness and the RADAR model with the help of examples from the manufacturing industry and our daily life.
The last speaker at the conference Mr. Tejasvi Sharma, General Manager-Global TB & API Business, Sandoz Pvt. Ltd. gave an interesting overview of the USD 800 billion Pharmaceutical industry, its growth and opportunities. His presentation clearly suggested that ?Generics is the future? and companies must developed their strategies accordingly.
The Conference was conclude with a vote of thanks to all the esteemed speakers, guest, corporate executives, faculty and the SIMSR alumni by Prof C P Joshi who is the HOD-Strategy & International Business at SIMR.
