The number of children that have email addresses is always on the rise and every year the kids that want to take part in emailing seem to get younger and younger. This shouldn't be surprising; after all, we live in a digital age where technology and the Internet is popular and cool.

There really is nothing wrong with letting your child enjoy webmail but before you set them up with an account you need to make it clear to them that having an electronic mailing account isn't all fun and games. They need to know that sometimes they may receive emails from people they don't know and that these unknown messages should never be opened but should be deleted or brought to your attention.

Make sure you inform your son or daughter why these spamming messages are potentially dangerous. Let them know that by opening up this type of mail they could expose the computer to a virus or other malware. They also risk seeing upsetting information or pictures they don't want to see - or more importantly - you don't want them to see.

When it comes to choosing a web-mail provider for your kid, you will want to choose one that has a powerful spam blocker. Most of the free and popular providers should be able to sufficiently meet your needs and give you all of the security features you need to keep your child safe, such as junk mail filters.

You can setup your child's e-mail so that they only receive communications from friends and family members whose addresses you have permitted. Also be certain to tell them that they should only give their digital address out to people they know to avoid receiving spam.

Since, your kid's e-account will likely not be able to stop all spam you should frequently access their inbox to make sure it is free of junk. Delete all mail from unknown senders that way they don't have to deal with it. In addition, you may want to consider running an email search on theses spammers to see if you can learn more information about them and maybe file a complaint with their Internet Service Provider.
