Famous Poems By John Keats

Literature is rich with many epic writings and poetry. When it comes to poetry, there are many unforgettable names that have contributed to literature like Shakespeare, William Wordsworth and John Keats. John Keats poetry hold a special meaning for the lovers of romantic poetry.

John Keats was born in London in a middle class family in 1795. He worked hard for education in the field of medicine and later worked as an apprentice to a surgeon. During that time, he also used to study literature. At the young age of 15, he was working as both; an assistant to a surgeon and a contributor to the literature. He did some amazing translations of Greek literature, that was quite complex. He was one of the most famous poets of his time.

He had a lot of responsibility along with passion of poetry. He wanted to do a lot for the field of literature but he died too soon for that. At the young age of 25, he died because of tuberculosis. His work was criticized while he was alive. After his death, his work became famous in the literary circle and soon got a lot of honor.

He was born in a middle class family. His father died when he was 8 years old. His mother remarried and later divorced her husband and gave her children in guardianship of their grandmother. When John Keats was 14, his mother also died. At the age of 15, his started his carrier as a dresser (assistant to a surgeon). But surgery was not his thing.

Poetry was his obsession. He wanted to make a lot of contribution in the field of literature. He was annoyed with his job and had more focus on poetry. Later, he left his job as a dresser and devoted his all time and effort to poetry.

He faced a lot of criticism on his work. But now even after his death, this English poet is still alive through his words. He had a unique style of writing. His work in majority in form of odes. His famous work is ode to Psyche, ode on Indolence, La Belle Dam Sans Merci, Bright star and more. He was a romantic poet and his major work was love poems.

John not only studied Greek but he worked on some Greek mythology themes as well. Endymion and Hyperion come in the category of Greek writings of John Keats. His writings and his odes are a great treasure for students of literature.

His poetry didn't receive that much of love that it was supposed to. But years after his death, people read, share and admire his work. The romantic English poet lost his life battle with tuberculosis when he was just 25. His bad health and doctor's advice moved him to Rome, for a warm climate.

During this period of pain, he tried to commit suicide many times. He was hopeless. His pain was unbearable for him and medication was not working for him. His close friends were nursing him in his last days. They engraved on his tombstone as per his last wish, "Here lies one whose name was writ with Water".
