I?ve been meditating for more than a 2 years now and I have some thoughts on it and its use. As a hypnotherapist I?ve used it to assist me in seeing my clients who come for numerous things like depression, anxiety, weightloss and smoking hypnosis to name 1 or 2.
Well let me list the uses I have used it for straight off relaxation, elimination off anxiety and other bad feelings. Conscious relaxing of muscles for helping with reprogramming my body to get rid of recalled discomfort. Removal of all additional tension in my muscles or other tissues. Visualisation of smart goals, NLP change work to change my opinion and feelings. Finally getting more in touch with my body and having the ability to sense all the muscles and tissues in my body to a very great extent.
I originally used it to relax and release stress so I would relax myself as much as feasible to modify my state from being stressed to being relaxed. This was particularly vital when I started my new business of hypnotherapy, this cause additional anxiety at the time and because I worked with people with Problems it was really important for me to get my clients a good result. So when working with my clients I need to be in a relaxed focused state, where I am centered outward with a very quite mind, so I?ll use my senses to work out what is happening with my clients so I will provide help to them.
So I used meditation to feel better and change my state! What is the mind body connection? It is where what you?re feeling influences the way that you think and naturally the opposite applies as well so what you think influences how you feel so that the body and mind are directly linked and influence each other. As an example if you have very stressed thoughts this will tend to generate the feelings of stress in the body as physical sensations, while naturally the reverse applies as well if you stomach starts to flutter like anxiousness it will then make you begin having stressed thoughts. The two are linked and influence each other.
Using this principle I also used Meditation to do my NLP Change work to get rid of anxiety and other things in my life that were bothering me, even behaviours so I might put my self in a very relaxed state then start working on my mind and the way In which I think because this is simply a hypnotic state and a good place to be to start changing what you do at a subconscious level. So at this stage I am now using meditation to work on my self from two different angles one from the mind and the other from the body to get change at a unconscious level.
As a part of my change work I also use mediation to visualize my Goals in a fashion that focuses me on working towards achieving this goal in this state it is a better place to do it, because you can access and communicate with your unconscious mind easier than in a normal waking state of which I also did this visualization I did this as much as practicable.
I also started work on some physical issues I had like recalled pain, I had plenty of issues with my left hip where all of the muscles had tightened up such a lot to try and protect an old injury, that I kept re-injuring to the point where it never got better if anything it just got worse over a period of time and as it probably did I just got used to it and added rather more tension plus pain. So I?d relax the muscles in the area getting them to only tense to the level that they should rather than being switched on all of the time in a tense unpleasant way. I mixed this with NLP to get rid of all unconscious programs of recreating the injury in the area along with massaging treatment. This sort of reset my body and mind so that the area healed.
Thru the process above I also got an understanding on what else the work could help me with and that is getting in touch with my body and what it is feeling, I am really not an individual who was very mindful of what was occuring in my body and over time this had got worse, so I found just by exploring my body looking for strain and releasing it I was bringing into my conscious awareness the ability to feel what was occuring in my body, then getting some conscious control of the body to relax it.
Thru this journey with meditation I have one goal at the end of it all and that?s I do not want to have to depend on meditating every day for the remainder of my life solely to feel great. This is what I see many of us out there doing who practice it! They?ve a set frame that to feel nice and relaxed and good they have to meditate every day, if they do not well they do not get to feel truly good. The have also got the idea that they must do this for the rest of the life to manage or handle the stress, depression etc So that they can feel better, I?m aware that this is not how it essentially has to be and I am in the act of teaching my subconscious mind the simple way to automate all the things I?m learning! With the knowledge that one day I can opt to stop meditating and I wont need to because I have automated everything I have explained above and I?m going to do it instantly all the time while I?m awake doing anything in my life. I know this is possible and I also know someone who has got to this stage, so I suppose what my aim is to use this to switch and to not use it to cope with or manage stuff on an ongoing basis like most others I have met do.
