St. Patrick's food, drink and frolic | Food and More with John Kessler

St. Patrguinness-pint-glassesick?s Day is on Sunday this year, which means pubs and other places are celebrating with all sorts of shenanigans all weekend, including plenty of Irish-style food and drink. Here?s a small sample:

Food and frolic at Fado

The iconic Buckhead pub has spruced up its menu with fewer items and more snacks and sharing plates. The ?Chip Shop? offers a choice of thick or thin cut fries with sauces such as Guinness mayo, Marie Rose and curry. Or get your chips topped with the likes of fresh rosemary and parmesan or black pudding and chimichurri.

Of course, the all-day Irish breakfast is still on the ?Big Plates? menu, with two eggs, Irish sausages, rashers, black and white pudding, mushrooms and potatoes. With a pint of Guinness, the fry-up may be the all-time greatest hangover prescription.

Fado?s St. Patrick?s lead-up continues today at 2:30 p.m. with the annual St. Baldrick?s fundraiser for kids with cancer, where you can decide to shave your head, volunteer or donate some cash.

On Saturday, St. Practice Day begins at 10:30 a.m. and goes on with an outdoor party with food and drink. On Sunday, doors open at 7 a.m. for breakfast and there will be another edition of the sprawling St. Patrick?s Day street festival at noon with more food and drink, Irish dancers, bagpipers, live bands, and wild people. 273 Buckhead Avenue, Atlanta, 404-841-0066, fadoirishpub.com/atlanta.

BSP and Leon?s

At the Brick Store Pub, live music starts at noon on both Saturday and Sunday and continues into the wee hours on Sunday. Irish-style food includes scones, lamb stew, shepherd?s pie, and corned beef and cabbage. 125 East Court Square, Decatur, 404-687-0990, brickstorepub.com.

At Leon?s, there?s Irish-inspired food on Saturday, and Miles Macquarrie?s famous Irish coffee and a full Irish fry-up all day Sunday, plus kegs of Victory Donnybrook Stout and Porterhouse Irish Dry Stout and other beer and cocktail treats. 131 E. Ponce De Leon Avenue, Decatur, 404-687-0500, leonsfullservice.com.

Sweetwater and Smallcakes

Smallcakes ?Porter Me Up? cupcake is a sweet St. Patrick?s Day collaboration between the cupcakery and Sweetwater Brewing Co. The combo features Smallcakes? signature chocolate cake and butter cream frosting infused with Sweetwater Exodus Porter.?Available through Sunday, March 17 at all Georgia locations, including 2955 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, 404-846-9960, smallcakescupcakery.com.
