Joei & Me: Staycation in Dusit Thani Manila.

Since we were attending a wedding near Makati 2 weekends ago, T thought of checking in at Dusit Thani Manila.

Staycation. ? A vacation spent at home or close to home (by choice!) instead of going on an out-of-town trip. -Joei's Dictionary

Since T had to take care of some business stuff, he dropped me off at the hotel first. But when I got there at around 2pm (check-in time), our room wasn't ready yet. I wasn't that disappointed though since the front desk officer asked someone to accompany me to a place where I can wait.

They led me to a lounge where they served me my welcome drink.

After 30-40 minutes, they finally handed me our room key.

We got a room called the Junior Suite which had a floor area of 42sqm. Nice.

Since I like to read before sleeping, I love these little alien-like things attached to the headboard. I think they call it 'light diffusers'.

This desk lamp is also good for reading but sometimes it's too bright for T or too dark for me.

Meet Stitch. Where I go, he goes. ?You'll see him more in my next travel posts :)

This is the living room area. ?So much space!

Below the TV is the mini bar.

I realized that I can't last in a room without a desk... and coffee! ?Would've been nice to have complimentary brewed coffee (ala Discovery Shores Boracay) though.

This is the bathroom. ?It has a bathtub and a shower.

The toiletries they have are L'Occitane. Our favorite!

They also provide a comb, a shower cap, a shaving kit, a dental kit, and guess what? A nail file! ?Haven't seen that one before :)

There are also containers of bath salts and potpourri by the bathroom sink.

T arrived before dinnertime but he was too tired to go out and eat so we just ordered food from Basix, one of the restaurants in Dusit. ?Actually, we just wanted burgers from Wendy's across the street but it was closed already. ?

T got Baked Beer in Onion Soup?(P260/$7) to start.

And a Cheeseburger?with French Fries (P530)?for his main.

My food comes with Chicken Caesar Salad so I didn't order an appetizer.

For my main course, I got the?Prawns and Scallops on Saffron Risotto with Shiitake Mushrooms (P875/$22). ?Yummy! Although T thought it needed just a bit of pepper and salt to taste.

We both ordered Mango Shakes.

The next morning, T?left to take care of more business stuff so I went to explore the hotel's amenities. On the second floor is Devarana Spa.

"Devarana" (pronounced te-wa-run) comes from Thai-Sanskrit, meaning "garden in heaven". The spa was especially designed from the concept of the garden situated at heaven's gate as described in ancient Thai literature "Traibhumikatha", written in 1345 A.D. (1888 B.E.) by Phraya Lithai. Devarana Spa will excite the senses and make spa lovers feel truly special ... as if you are in heaven.

Devarana is a luxury spa found only in 3 countries: Thailand, Maldives, and the Philippines. ?Luxury? An Aromatic Mani-Pedi costs P4,400++ ($120) and a 5-hour treatment called Half Day Harmony?costs P21,800++ ($600) per couple. I wonder if it's worth it. ?Know anyone who tried it?

I want to try their services with T (no, not the Half Day Harmony!) next time since Devarana Spa is the Platinum Winner of "Spa of the Year" and "Signature Spa Experience" in the HAPA Awards from 2011 to 2013.

The gym is in the other corner. ?Equipment seems to be complete but I didn't bring any workout clothes since I can barely walk with my sprained ankle.

Beside the gym is a parlor called Le Kuku. ?A mani-pedi?here is around the same price as Devarana Spa's, around P300-500 ($9-11) less.

Outside the second floor is the pool area. Finally, a place where I can hang out.

There weren't much guests that day so it was easy to find a good spot.

As soon as I settled in my pool chair, I was torn between reading sentimental Nicholas Sparks and sexy Christian Grey but ended up re-reading "A Clash of Kings". ?Despite thousands of girls swooning over him, I can't seem to get into the Grey bandwagon. ?I don't even know if I spelled his name correctly! ?Maybe the movie will do it for me. ?Let's see.

I could've spent the whole afternoon in the pool area if not for the non-stop honking of the buses downstairs during rush hour!

T arrived before dinner so we went to the mall to look for stuff we might need for the wedding. ?I ended up shopping instead since Forever 21 was located just across the street! *GULP*

It was a really relaxing weekend for me especially since I sprained my ankle pretty bad (Yes, I know shopping wasn't good for my ankle but I made it a point to rest between fittings ;)). ?Although?I hope we can do this again because T wasn't able to fully enjoy the staycation as much as I did since he had a lot of things to take care of.

As for our restaurant food adventures, I'll write about it in another blog entry :)

Thank you to everyone from Dusit Thani Manila for making it a great staycation for us. ?You definitely deserve an AAA in service!

Thumbs Up!
1. Friendly and approachable staff at the concierge and front desk

2. Efficient guest services (they took care of everything from mailing a letter to lending an umbrella to checking the need of an adapter for my gadgets)

3. Good food available 24 hours (dine in or room service)
4. Fast wireless internet (in the public areas and in our room)
5. On-the-dot housekeeping visits to clean, change sheets, and refill complimentary items

Thumbs Down!
1. Long wait for our room to get ready
2. Staff in the pool area did not approach me to ask me if I wanted anything to drink or eat
