Replacing Cold Water Fill Valve On W.H. - Plumbing - DIY Home ...

As I was making space for my soon to arrive air compressor I noticed that my water heater was leaking from the cold water fill valve. Today I plan on cutting it off and sweating on a new one. The end that connects to the heater is also leaking so that will go too.

Does anyone have any tips or things I should know before I begin. I'm thinking...

Shut off gas to heater

Turn off water

Will I have to purge air from heater afterwards?

Thanks for any help you can give me!
